§ Comment “‘Cries in the Memphis Night’ is a sequel to ‘The
Lady Gentian Violet,’ a one-act play about sixty minutes in length that
was first presented at First Stage in Hollywood as part of Playwrights
Express in two parts, then staged at the Riant Theatre in New York in August
and September of 1996 (four-week run). The original ‘Gentian Violet’ could
be summarized thus: ‘Bodacious beauty Gentian Violet, in reality a man,
schemes to save Daddy’s plantation by hooking herself a rich husband. The
Crying Game meets Gone With theWind.”
