  §  Dramatis Personae Astronaut (m), 35, ____; Pirate (m), 35, ____; Stage Manager (m or f), 40, ____; Pat (m or f, opposite of Stage Manager), 40, the playwright;.

§  Synopsis “The play takes us through four separate scenes of a Fringe play in progress, each scene using a different setting and theme involving an astronaut and a pirate. During the play, each scene is interrupted by the stage manager because of her dissatisfaction with the script (and the ridiculous concept of having an astronaut and pirate in the same show).  Upon stopping the final scene, the playwright arrives and questions the stage manager about the show’s success.  She gives him a false report, to which he concludes that his innovation of putting an astronaut and pirate together was a great artistic achievement.

§  Comment “Four shorts scenes.  •  The script calls for the playwright (Pat) to be married to or partnered with the Stage Manager. The roles can be of either gender, but this relationship should be taken into consideration when casting.  •  Requires pirate and astronaut costumes.

§  Themes acting, astronautics, festival, Fringe, piracy, play within a play, playwriting.
