§ Synopsis “Carol, a Midwestern wife who wants desperately to become a mother, volunteers to spend an evening with Melanie and Pia, traveling judges of Little Miss Princess Beauty Pageants. She finds there’s a bit more to judging curly-haired toddlers than watching them tap-dance—and a lot more to Melanie and Pia than brittle beauty and a warped relationship.

§ Comment “One scene. Set requirements: folding table and chairs, and bulletin board, of the sort found in an elementary school. ten headshots of the same child. A child-size tiara on a pillow. • Mature content; not for children. • “Jody Handley’s work was most recently produced by Unidentified Theatre Company, who staged ‘To Engage in Mutual Touching’ and a ‘Caressing of the Lips’ as part of their one act Marathon in March. This play was also the winner of the 2002 Playwrights' Center of San Francisco’s DramaRama Short PLay competition, and another play ‘Subjects’ was also a finalist. She wrote ‘A Midsummer Night’s Real World’ for Daytrippers Play-In-A-Day Marathon for the Best of Fringe 2001, and also had a staged reading of her play, ‘Bless Me Father,’ for the Playwrights' Center’s Sheherezade benefit. Jody Handley is a member of the Playwrights' Center of SF and Lucky Penny will be her first time working with Three Wise Monkeys.“—3WM Short Leaps - The Writers, http://www.threewisemonkeys.org/sl/writers.html, accessed February 5, 2004.
