The shaman knows things about the fugitive, including Mark's name, that no one possibly could. When Mark reveals that men whose leader he had killed have taken his daughter and that chances for his ever getting out alive with his daughter, he asks only to know whether she is safe. As Mark's pursuers draw near, the shaman finds the answers both he and Mark seek that defy both life and death.
