§ Dramatis Personae Collin (m), 30, handsome bartender, Vanessa’s boyfriend; The Ghost (m), 30, Collin's former best friend; Vanessa (f), 30, Collin’s girlfriend.

§ Synopsis “Collin and Vanessa return to Collin’s apartment from the veterinarian’s office. Collin grieves the death of his cat, Frodo, and Vanessa tries to comfort him. Collin convinces her that he just wants to be alone for the evening. After Vanessa leaves, he receives a phone call from a girl with whom he is having an affair and invites the girl over. The Ghost, a man wearing sweats, appears and scolds Collin for his mistreatment of Vanessa. The Ghost turns out to be Frodo, the beloved cat. Frodo reveals that by providing adorable distractions, he all along had been preventing Vanessa’s finding evidence and discovering the affair. Frodo argues that Collin should commit to a relationship with Vanessa before she learns about the affair and leaves him.

§ Comment “A light-hearted romantic comedy. One continuous scene. Inner-city bachelor pad living room with a couch, a recliner or chair, coffee tables, scratching post and litter box. Requires a live kitten on stage at the end. Some strong language.” • Addendum September 22, 2004: “‘Symbiosis’ and ‘Skid Marks’ were both produced in an evening of one-act plays called Fourplay at Cyrano's Off-Center Playhouse in Anchorage, Alaska, September 9-19th, 2004.”

§ Themes affair, bachelorhood, bartender, cats, death, fidelity, ghost, grief, love, man's best friend, maturity, responsibility.
