  §  Dramatis Personae Fat Lucy (f), fat lady at a carnival sideshow; Circus Owner (m), finagler; Lion Tamer (m), beloved of Fat Lucy.

  §  Synopsis “Fat Lucy, the fat lady at a carnival sideshow of a touring circus, has gone on a crash diet, throwing the whole survival of the carnival into doubt. The owner of the circus and carnival investigates and discovers that the fat lady has fallen in love with the lion tamer and is losing weight in order to win his love. The owner tries to finagle the fat lady into eating some jelly doughnuts for which he sends out. Lucy either must resist the owner’s making her give up her dreams of love or yield and eat.
