§ Synopsis
“A recent widow and her son prepare for her move to a nursing home. As they
discuss their strained relationship, her combative nature and sharp humor
as usual have her son on edge. The planned move and the relationship take
a sharp about-face.
§ Comment
“One scene, an empty living room, save for one chair and a midsize box.
• The play has been performed in New York regional theatre and Off-Broadway.
At present, it is among twenty-five finalists, chosen from two hundred and
fifty-six entries, for a fall short play festival in New York City. The play,
an audience favorite, especially resonates with women. The part of the mother
is a true showcase role. A woman who recently played the part will again
do the role in a special ‘Members Choice’ night at a highly-praised New York
City theatre company.”
§ Themes
aging, dominance, family, generation gap, mother-son relationship, nursing
home, widowhood.
