Dramatis Personae Selby (f), a young woman; Claire (f), an older woman

Synopsis "A young woman, Selby, follows an older woman, Claire, to a library. When they meet, Selby confesses that she has been following Claire for over a week. At first Selby tries to convince Claire that Claire is her mother. When that does not work, Selby admits she has been following her because Claire seems able to be alone yet strong. Claire shares Selby an odd technique of deriving wisdom from random quotations in books. This calms Selby until Selby breaks down and tells of a horrific sexual assault. Claire cannot help her and even seems resentful that Selby's despair, unlike Claire's, is rational and explainable."

Themes despair, generation gap, sexual abuse, stalking.
