§ Dramatis Persona Mike (m), 30, a driving instructor, recently redundant.
§ Synopsis “Mike has qualified as a driving instructor and is beginning to enjoy the extra money. His wife Lisa has been seriously ill and Mike is struggling to come to terms with the changes in their life this has caused. He is waiting impatiently for his wife who is in with the doctor. Mike is complaining about the facilities and services in the hospital. He explains the circumstances in which his wife Lisa got admitted into hospital and the crass comments he had made before realising that she was poorly. Mike is really very anxious about this appointment as she is finding out whether they couple can still have children.
§ Comment “The action requires just a chair, mug and magazines, making the script an ideal audition/showcase piece (already in use). • This monologue was written to be performed with my other monologues ‘Breathe Easy’ and ‘Wipe Away the Smears’ as a 30-minute piece called ‘Healing Arts’. ‘Healing Arts’ was filmed in 2003 as ‘Doctor’s Mark’ and entered into the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2003.
§ Themes concern, marriage, physical illness, upset, worry.
