Synopsis Debbie speaks as narrator. Then she arrives for dinner at the house of her sister Mary, Bill, and their daughter Jan. After dinner, Debbie imbibes her first bottle of liquor. In the morning, Debbie, driving on her way out while still drunk, hits Jan, who is playing in the lawn. Jan dies. Debbie goes to the local church for help; but only the minister in training, the janitor, is there to help her stop drinking. Four years later, Debbie, sober since Jan's death, visits Mary, Bill, and their new baby girl.
