§ Dramatis Personae J. (m), indeterminate age, a changeable and confident personality; Eve (f), 27, thin, pale, twitchy; Moureen (f), 40, comforting and kind.

§ Synopsis “Eve has come to Beachy Head cliffs in England from her home in Bristol, England, to commit suicide. She is inside the phone box near the cliffs. As she comes out, J. walks over and sits on the bench, reading a newspaper in Aramaic. Eve feels that with someone else there she cannot jump, so asks J. to leave. They discuss her impending act, with flashbacks to her phone box conversation with Moureen, who is a Samaritans help line counsellor. Moureen fails to aid Eve with the desired answer. J succeeds by revealing that he is in fact Jesus in Earthly form. Eve decides to follow him and see what she can do to rebuild her life.

§ Comment “The minimal set needs just a bench and red phone box. Moureen’s office is on a raised level. Useful would be a sound recording of the three actors’ last speeches to play to an empty stage, but this is optional, as they can be spoken live by the actors themselves. In the few instances that the conversation between J. and Eve changes to Eve and Moureen, Eve could go into the phone box.”

§ Themes depression, friendship, illness, Jesus, religion, suicide.
