  §  Dramatis Personae Bertha (f), Rose (f), Pottz (m or f).

§  Synopsis "Bertha is sitting knitting a shapeless and incompetent scarf. Rose enters and informs Bertha she is packing up to go away on a holiday and complains that Bertha does not eat the food she cooks. Pottz enters to borrow a cup of sugar. The dialogue is circuitous and repetitive. Rose returns with breakfast on a covered plate and Pottz goes. Rose informs Bertha of a putrefying rat under the stairs. Pottz returns to borrow a cup of milk and Rose goes. Bertha and Pottz hatch up a plot to get a key cut for the room and to arrange for meals on wheels for when Rose goes (so that Bertha can be rid of her)-if Pottz can remember. Pottz goes. Rose enters with her trunk and says she is going forever leaving Bertha locked up in the room. Bertha smiles because of her agreement with Pottz. Pottz enters as Rose leaves which means that both Bertha and Pottz are locked in the room, moreover Pottz has forgotten about the locksmith and the meals on wheels. Rose lifts the cover of the breakfast. It is a dead rat.

§  Comment "Produced by Stagecraft Theatre 1995 with an all female cast; directed by Leigh Cain."
