§ Dramatis
Personae Mary (f), a waitress; Jane (f), Mary’s friend.
§ Synopsis
“Mary, a breast cancer survivor and a waitress at a taco stand, arrives
at her survivors group. Her friend, Jane, another survivor, points
out that something about Mary is different. It doesn’t take Jane
long to figure out that Mary’s partially removed breast is back and intact.
It turns out that Mary received it earlier that day as a ‘tip’ at the taco
stand where she works from a man claiming to be the Messiah. But
with the new breast, Mary no longer qualifies as a survivor, and Jane won’t
let her come to group anymore. The Messiah shows up, and Mary tries
to get him to take the breast back—the group is her life—but he can’t.
Jane invites the Messiah to take Mary’s place in group, and as the play
ends, a desperate Mary is ready to cut off the offending body part.
