§ Dramatis Personae Frank (m), 38, former stand-up comic, down on his luck; Greta (f), 13, Frank’s daughter.

§ Synopsis Frank, a down-on-his-luck stand-up comic, searches for his daughter, Greta, who has gone missing after a fight with her mother. He finds her in an arcade on the boardwalk. As they play pinball and skee ball, he talks her into going back home, and in the process, Greta realizes why Frank no longer lives with the family.

§ Comment Simple set. An older actress who looks like a young teenager can play Greta. An actor from his late 30s-early 50s can play Frank. Actual arcade games are not required; sound effects and body language can indicate them. • Premiered October, 2004, by Provincetown Theater Company as part of its Fall Playwrights Festival. • Kathleen Warnock’s full-length plays include To the Top (winner, South Carolina Playwrights Festival); Grieving for Genevieve and The Audience. Her short plays include ‘Not at Home’ (Provincetown Theater Company, Massachusetts, U.S.A.), ‘I’m Gonna Run Away’ (Turnip Theater Festival, Audience Favorite, New York City); ‘The Space Between Heartbeats’ (Homogenius Festival, New York City; Short & Girlie company, London); ‘A Bushel of Crabs’ (En Avant Playwrights, Turnip Festival, New York City) ‘Rocks in the Bed’ (En Avant Playwrights, Carrollwood Players, Tampa) and ‘Around the Horn’ (Gardner-Webb University, North Carolina, U.S.A.). Kathleen won the John Golden Award for ‘Grieving for Genevieve.’ She is a member of the Dramatists Guild.

§ Themes “adolescence, alcoholism, arcade, coming of age, divorce, father-daughter relationship, growing up, parenting, teen.”
