§ Dramatis Personae Harold (m), 68, husband; Dottie (f), 68, wife.

§ Synopsis “Harold wakes at 3:00 a.m. to find his wife Dottie dancing in a sparkling evening gown to Otis Redding. Dottie reveals that she is celebrating the death of Harold's best friend who passed away earlier that evening. Confronted with the ghosts of the past, Harold must decide if he will mourn the loss of his best friend, or prove his love for a wife he betrayed.

§ Comment “‘Love and Happiness’ is a brave story about the survival of love. • Technical requirements are minimal. • ‘Love and Happiness’ premiered as a workshop production in July 2003 as part of Between 5 Stories, a short play festival produced by the Sarah Lawrence College Summer Theatre Collective and presented in Manhattan Ensemble Theater in New York City. The Little Fish Theatre Company featured the play in the Pick of the Vine Festival, San Pedro, California, U.S.A. {February-March, 2004}, the New England Academy of Theater (Connecticut, U.S.A.) featured it in the Short and NEAT One Act festival (June 2004), and the Pregnant Chad New Play Festival (New York, U.S.A., October, 2004) featured it. Most recently the play won the Stanley and Evelyn Lipkin Prize for Playwriting 2004. • Adrienne Dawes is a recent graduate from Sarah Lawrence College. Her plays have been produced by the Sarah Lawrence College Theatre Department; Downstage, the SLC student theater company; Off My Back Theatre Productions; Revolving Stages; Riant Theatre’s Strawberry One Act Festival; REJOTI Productions; American Repertory Theatre of London, Live Girls Theatre!, Little Fish Theatre Company, Stormy Weather Players, New England Academy of Theater, and published by Playscripts, Inc and Smith + Kraus. Her first full-length play, Jesus Loves Good Christians, premiered in Downstage’s spring 2003 season and was named a semifinalist for the Mildred and Albert Panowski Playwriting Award 2003. Most recently Adrienne was awarded the 2004 Stanley and Evelyn Lipkin Prize for Playwriting for her plays ‘You Are Pretty’ and ‘Love and Happiness.’ Adrienne is a member of the Dramatist Guild and Austin Scriptworks.”
