§ Dramatis Personae __________ (m), a hair stylist; __________ (f), a client.
§ Synopsis A woman wants to finally get a flattering haircut, but her new stylist sees more to her identity than her appearance.
§ Comment This sketch is rather graphic as the male stylist describes to the female client how to have a female to male gender transition. The props include a tall stool, a hairstyling apron, two combs, hair gel or a water sprayer, and a ponytail band. The play is part of an evening of sketch comedy called Faces of Excess, a ribald review of sex, drugs, and rock & roll. The play examines how identity cuts across gender boundaries. Performers Co-op, New London, Connecticut, U.S.A., developed this play in 1996 for the show Faces of Excess. It was originally performed at the Hygienic Arts Festival, New London, Connecticut, U.S.A., in January, 1995. It was also performed at the 1996 River of Pride Festival in Fall River, Massachusetts, U.S.A., by the Fall River Area Lesbian and Gay Alliance.
